Firstly sorry its been so long since our last post. It’s been a crazy year and we have all been busy planning new and exciting projects! We have recently submitted a Grants for the Arts application to complete making our new piece Etch over the Summer. If all goes well Etch will tour from September 30th. We have a really exciting tour booked already with 10 dates across the South West of England. As soon as we are able to share dates with you we will, so make sure you are following us on Facebook and Twitter.
We found out last month that our funding application for Reaching Out to the Devon Community Foundation was successful (YAY!). So we will be planning some taster sessions in Barn Barton and Southway very soon, with the hope of them leading to more regular work in these areas. We have been working in Ernesettle with Barefoot for almost 18 months now to set up a youth dance group there. Space Shot Youth Dance Company has been one of the highlights of our week and we would love to replicate this group in other areas of Plymouth.
Making Waves is our newest and (possibly) most exciting new project. In January we found out that our application to RIO’s Challenge Fund was successful. We have had fantastic support from RIO over the past few months that has really helped Exim focus our work and build new and exciting partnerships. Our idea was to working with Plymouth University to do a programme of outreach work in schools across the South West to help profile Dance in Higher Education and get young people excited and inspired about going to university. This project is also about building relationships with the dance departments in schools and the dance department at the university and providing paid work based learning opportunities for current students and recent graduates. We are taking bookings for workshops in schools already and we have just auditioned and interviewed 9 students/ graduates for these trainee positions. For me this has been the most exciting part so far. Its great to be able to provide employment for so many young people at the start of their careers. The project is three years long so it will grow and develop over time and has the potential to change so many young people’s lives.
Over the next few weeks/ months we will be introducing you to our amazing new team and some of our youth dancers as well as keeping you updated on the company’s work and developments. So please make sure you subscribe to our mailing list so you never miss a thing.
