What a jammed packed January to February half term Exim Dance Company have had. We’ve started 2017 with a bang delivering 17 classes each week in term term. Behind closed doors lots of planning for new projects and classes are coming together to begin in the next several months. Exciting meetings have taken place and wonderful news has been received. We can’t wait to share with you the public very soon!
8th February at City College ‘Dance Infinity’ platform the groups were thrilled to be apart and to perform and loved the experience of watching other local Plymouth youth groups and college students showcasing dance works.
ADAPT are looking forward to creating a new piece ready to present at Wheelfever’s event in March. The group have recently found out they have been selected to perform at Funky Llama festival this year for the second year running. Rebecca one of the youth dancers celebrated her birthday before we broke up for half term and we only thought it was right to throw her a birthday party!
Making Waves have had a busy 5 weeks making a new promo film with FOTONOW.
Creating a new dance piece ‘Over Cast’. The dancers are very much looking forward to working with Plymouth College of Art to design new dance costumes for a performance that’s taking place at The House in April. Next Steps South West are presenting a presentation to the weekly group after half term to prepare the older dancers on that all important decision of what College/University to apply for in Plymouth.
Space Shot Youth
The group have recently made a grease inspired dance piece that they will be performing at local platforms over the next few months. Part of the group are just about to undertake their dance leadership training. Barefoot who support the project have got through to the second round of the Reaching Communities application. If all is successful with it the group will be sustainable for the next three years.
Exim community practitioner Rob has been working with Soke Damerel Community College with an all boys group. They have made a short dance film with FOTONOW which will be released very soon. Community practitioner Lucy and Exim Artistic Director Laura were over the moon to watch both there year 7 and year 8 groups perform at Devonport High School for Girls January dance showcase.
The creative team go back into the studio on the 19th February to work with Adam Benjamin before the second part of the tour starts mid February. We have recently found out that the work has been selected to be presented at Fringe TheatreFest 2017.

Exim’s admin team have been busy in the office based at Plymouth School of Creative Arts updating the company’s marketing materials and packs, we’ve even purchased a lovely new banner with beautiful community images attached and captured by the talented Meier Williams.
Apprentice Tammy and Exim assistant Lydia had a great time representing the company at City College’s open day in February and Plymouth School of Creative Arts careers day.

Exim apprentice Tammy Mildren has secured a place at City College on the level 4 Higher National Certificate in Dance Theatre which she will begin in September. We couldn’t be more pleased for her. She’s a real credit the company. Tammy will carry on attending the youth projects that she’s part of with the company and will work one day a week after her apprenticeship finishes in April.
