Formed in 2011 Exim is first and foremost a touring dance company producing work that sits firmly in the Dance Theatre genre; as well as working in the community focusing on providing high quality dance opportunities for the local area particularly at risk young people.
Exim has quickly established itself as a vibrant, exciting and diverse group of artists creating professional Dance Theatre in the South West of England building strong partnerships with Plymouth Dance (PD), Plymouth University (PU), Dance in Devon (DiD), and the Barbican Theatre (BT).
Artistic achievements include: ‘Bleak’ (2011) a dance for camera piece awarded second place at the Cornish Film Festival (Dance Category) with the live version touring venues across the South West, ‘I saw them fall’ 2012 was made with support from DiD, Exeter Northcott, PU and PD and was performed at the Gaining Ground Platform, ‘Wade in The Water’ 2012/2013 has been performed at platforms across the South West and Wales receiving excellent audience feedback. We have recently finished the first tour of our triple bill ImPACT 2014/15. Our first national tour as a company choreographed by Adam Benjamin, Olivia Lockwood and Michael Williams, the ten date tour was incredibly successful.
We also run three youth companies ADAPT and Space Shot Dance (Plymouth) and Clash (Dartmouth) as well as facilitating dance in primary and secondary schools within and outside of the curriculum and providing CPD opportunities for dance students and recent graduates.
